A Developer's Morning Smoothie: Fueling Productivity

In my previous post, I shared my morning routine as a software engineer. After my initial deep-focus work session, it's time to recharge, preferably with something quick, delicious, and science-backed.

Inspired by Dr. Michael Greger's bestselling book "How Not to Die," my go-to smoothie emphasizes ingredients scientifically recognized for their health-promoting properties:

  • πŸ₯ Mango (nutrient-rich sweetness)
  • πŸ₯¬ Kale (cruciferous veggie packed with antioxidants)
  • 🫐 Blueberries (about ΒΌ cup, powerful antioxidants fighting free radicals)
  • 🌾 Rolled oats (1 cup, fiber for sustained energy and digestive health)
  • πŸ₯„ Flaxseed (1 large spoon, healthy fats and fiber)
  • 🌱 Seed Mix (1 spoon, minerals and healthy fats)
  • 🌰 Walnuts (ΒΌ cup, healthy fats and brain fuel)
  • 🍠 Fresh turmeric root (about 0.5 cm, anti-inflammatory properties)
  • 🌢️ Black Pepper (a pinch, boosts turmeric absorption)
  • 🫘 Beans (Β½ cup, fiber and plant-based protein)
  • πŸ’§ Water

Blend all ingredients into a smooth, nutritious mix.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡± Mijn ochtendsmoothie: Mango, boerenkool, blauwe bessen, havermout, lijnzaad, zadenmix, walnoten, kurkuma, zwarte peper, bonen en water – in de blender!

"As discussed by Dr. Greger, research indicates that consuming ingredients rich in antioxidants, such as berries and cruciferous vegetables, may reduce inflammation and support longevity."

Practical Tip

You don't need to follow my recipe to the letter, start with a few fruits or vegetables you already enjoy. Experiment until you find your own groove.

Pro Tip πŸ˜‰

Add a spoonful of 100% pure cacao powder for extra fiber and a guilt-free hit of chocolate.

This smoothie helps me boost my natural resistance and supports long-term well-being. It's one part of keeping both mind and body in a state of flow.

Have you tried making smoothies part of your daily routine? What are your favorite ingredients? I'd love to hear your tips and recipes!
